Royals score 6 in seventh to beat Rangers

Salvador Perez and Hunter Renfroe homered as the Kansas City Royals rallied past the visiting Texas Rangers 7-1 on Friday evening.

With one out in the fifth, Renfroe belted Michael Lorenzen’s 1-2 slider 373 feet down the left-field line for his third homer of the year to tie the score 1-1.

The Royals broke the game open in the seventh. Kansas City scored six times on six hits in the inning, capped by Perez’s three-run homer to give the Royals a 7-1 lead.

MJ Melendez broke a 0-for-27 slump with a leadoff single. Dairon Blanco pinch-ran for Melendez and stole second. Kyle Isbel singled to center to drive in Blanco and give the Royals a 2-1 lead.

Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino added RBI singles before Perez’s blast to left.

Perez’s eighth homer of the season extended his career-best on-base streak to 22 games. His 30 RBIs lead the American League.

Cole Winn (0-1) gave up four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning.

John Schreiber (3-0) allowed two hits and two walks in the seventh but escaped damage by striking out Marcus Semien with the bases loaded to end the inning.

In the third inning, Semien hit a two-out double and Corey Seager followed with a single to left, scoring the first run of the game. Seager had two of the Rangers’ seven hits.

Lorenzen allowed two singles through the first four innings. He left the game after going six innings and giving up one run on four hits with three walks, striking out three.

Royals starter Brady Singer gave up one run on four hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked none.

The Royals have won three straight and seven of their past 10.
