On the heels of a strong extended home stretch, the Dallas Stars now look to continue the success they’ve enjoyed on the road to open the season.
Amid a four-game away point streak, the Stars try to hand the Washington Capitals back-to-back home defeats for the first time this season Tuesday night.
Dallas avoided a season-high third straight loss by winning 3-1 over Columbus on Saturday. Arttu Hyry continued his strong start with a goal and an assist for the Stars, who also concluded a 4-2-0 homestand.
They now hope to regain some momentum.
“You can start building onto something. (The win Saturday) was the first one. We move forward,” said veteran forward David Perron, who played 11 minutes in his Dallas debut after the club signed him on Oct. 16.
Dallas’ Mikko Rantanen scored his seventh goal and has 17 points through 14 games this season. Teammate Jake Oettinger (1.63 goals-against average) stopped 24 of 25 shots against the Blue Jackets after yielding seven goals in his previous two starts.
With four goals and one assist this season, Hyry has matched his entire points output from 20 games in 2025-26 with Dallas.
Rantanen has recorded seven of his points while the Stars have gone 3-1-1 on the road this season. Meanwhile, Oettinger and teammate Casey DeSmith have combined to stop 114 of 119 shots in those five games away from home.
Dallas has also won three straight and eight of the last nine overall meetings versus Washington.
The Capitals had won three in a row before falling 5-1 to Minnesota on Sunday at home. It was a 2-1 game late into the third period, when the Capitals allowed two power-play goals and an empty-netter within the final three minutes of regulation.
It was just the third home loss in nine such games this season for the Capitals.
“It wasn’t a 5-1 hockey game. Sometimes you play a good game, you lose. Sometimes you play a bad game, you win,” said Washington forward Pierre-Luc Dubois.
“Eighty-four games, that just happens sometimes. … We have 60 minutes to win a hockey game. It’s frustrating for sure.
“You got to keep doing it.”
Justin Sourdif posted the lone goal for Washington on Sunday, and Logan Thompson made 24 saves.
Thompson allowed six goals while winning his first three starts of the season. Since then, he owns a 3.40 goals-against average while losing four of the last six. His Capitals teammate Charlie Lindgren is 3-1-0 with a 2.98 goals-against average this season.
Washington superstar Alex Ovechkin has recorded 13 goals and 22 points in 29 career games against the Stars, but he’s managed just four points during this, his final NHL season before retirement. Ovechkin has been held without a point in the last five games.
Teammate Jordan Kyrou (four goals, seven assists) had his six-game point streak end Sunday.
Dallas’ Jason Robertson has four points in the last four road games. He’s posted a goal with three assists in five career games at Washington.
