Blue Devils are 1st team to win on Lou Farber Field
TUCSON — Sunnyside put an end to Pueblo’s eight-game winning streak with a 25-14 victory Friday night at Santa Cruz Stadium.
The Warriors (1-1) had not lost on their new Lou Farber Field dating back to last season having won six consecutive games on the new field turf surface.
Pueblo took an early 7-0 lead, but the Blue Devils defense turned it up after that forcing multiple turnovers to take a 13-7 advantage into the break.
Sunnyside’s Aydan Tapia ran for four touchdowns on the night. The Blue Devils defense intercepted Pueblo quarterback Roman Otero three times.
It was the 1st win of the season for Sunnyside (1-1) after they opened with 10-7 loss to Vista Grande. The Blue Devils have a lot to contend with in the Conference 5A Southern Region. Both defending champion Desert View and Nogales have won their first two games. Flowing Wells, Mountain View, Maricopa and Cienega make up the balance of the region.
Pueblo is likely the favorite this year in a Conference 4A Gila region that features Cholla, Empire, Sahuarita, Rio Rico and Rincon/University.
