Singer-songwriter Darius Rucker confirmed Wednesday that he has joined the ownership group for NASCAR’s Legacy Motor Club.
The team co-owned by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion driver Jimmie Johnson and Knighthead Capital Management was rebranded in 2021, formerly known as Petty GMS Motorsports.
Rucker, 59, a three-time Grammy Award winner, made the announcement during an appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show.”
“We can announce now that I’m one of the investors and one of the owners of Legacy Motor Club,” Rucker said. “So, you know, I own NASCAR teams now, Dan. Look at me.”
“It’s cool,” he continued. “You know how much I love motorsports. You know how much I’ve loved NASCAR for years, so this is pretty cool for me.”
Legacy Motor Club fields the No. 42 Toyota driven by John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 43 Toyota driven by Erik Jones in the NASCAR Cup Series. Johnson is also a part-time driver in the team’s No. 84 car.
Rucker, a South Carolina native, originally gained fame in the 1990s as the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish. He later launched a career in country music.
