UA misses twenty 3-point shots and turns it over 17 times in 73-70 road loss
MANHATTAN (KS) — Dug McDaniel had 24 points and five steals, including a pivotal one in the waning seconds, to lead Kansas State to a 73-70 victory Tuesday night over No. 13 Arizona at Bramlage Coliseum.
Kansas State (13-11, 7-6 Big 12) has won six straight games, four of them against ranked opponents.
Arizona (17-7, 11-2) had its six-game winning streak snapped.
Brendan Hausen made two free throws with 6.1 seconds remaining to give the Wildcats their three-point lead.
After a timeout, McDaniel intercepted a pass from Jaden Bradley. McDaniel flipped the ball to Max Jones, who was fouled but missed both free throws with three seconds left.
Caleb Love, who made a 55-foot shot as Arizona forceed overtime against Iowa State on Jan. 27, rebounded the second miss and heaved a 60-foot shot, but it missed the mark as the buzzer sounded.
David N’Guessan collected 16 points and seven rebounds for Kansas State before fouling out with 1:27 left.
KJ Lewis led Arizona with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Bradley finished with 13 points. Bradley also was responsible for five of Arizona’s 17 turnovers, which Kansas State turned into 23 points.
Henri Veesaar added 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Tobe Awaka finished with 10 points.
Love finished with six points after shooting 3-of-15 from the field, including 0 of 7 from 3-point range.
The teams combined to shoot 3 of 41 from deep. Arizona was 2 of 22, while Kansas State was 1 of 19.
The game had 10 lead changes and nine ties.
Kansas State scored eight unanswered points, including two strong moves to the basket by McDaniel, to take a 68-62 lead with 1:39 left.

After Veesaar’s hit two free throws when N’Guessan fouled out, the teams traded possessions before Hausen made two free throws to give Kansas State a 70-64 lead with 57.7 seconds left.
Bradley then converted twice from the free-throw line with 49.9 seconds left.
Following Hausen’s missed on the front end of a one-and-one, Love drove to the basket for a reverse layup to cut the lead to 70-68.
CJ Jones was fouled and made one of two free-throw attempts with 23 seconds remaining.
Lewis’ putback with seven seconds left trimmed Kansas State’s lead to 71-70.
Arizona’s Trey Townsend (concussion protocol) missed his second consecutive game.
