Donald Hand Jr. scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Boston College to a 76-47 home victory over The Citadel in a nonconference matchup Thursday night.
The Eagles (1-1) trailed by nine early but took control with a 23-2 run that began seven minutes into the first half.
It was a rough shooting night for the Bulldogs (1-1), who were 16-of-53 from the floor and 10-of-20 from the free-throw line.
Chase Forte added 12 points and a team-high six assists for Boston College, which received nine points from Jason Asemota and seven points and nine rebounds from Marko Radunovic.
Christian Moore tossed in a team-high 16 points for The Citadel. Sola Adebisi added 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Braxton Williams finished with nine points.
Boston College missed its first eight shots from the field, which allowed The Citadel to build a 16-7 lead. The Eagles didn’t make their first field goal until a Radunovic layup 7:37 into the contest.
A Boden Kapke layup capped a 14-0 run that gave Boston College a 21-16 lead with 8:31 remaining in the first half, and the Eagles extended their advantage to 30-18 on Jayden Hastings’ dunk. Boston College led 38-24 at halftime.
The Eagles began the second half with an 8-0 spurt that made it 46-24 and held a 59-35 lead with 10 minutes to play. Boston College used another 8-0 run to push its advantage to 29 points in the final minute.
The Citadel, which made 21 of 59 3-point attempts in its 105-61 season-opening victory over Division II Erskine, was 5-of-26 from 3-point territory against Boston College. Moore knocked down three of the five 3-pointers.
The Eagles won despite shooting 5-of-28 from 3-point territory.
