Bulldogs quarterback Ivan Higuera combined for five touchdowns in Kino 4A win
TUCSON — Douglas pounced on Amphitheater with two quick touchdowns in the 1st five minutes of their game Friday night and never looked back on their way to a 45-14 victory at Friedli Field.
Bulldogs quarterback Ivan Higuera found Matthew Hudson for a 63-yard touchdown pass on the game’s opening drive and followed that up on Douglas’ 2nd possession with a 60-yard strike to Davian Fimbres.
Higuera finished with four touchdowns through the air and ran for another score. Fimbres caught two of those touchdowns. Carlos Guerrero also had a touchdown reception.
The Panthers (2-5, 0-2) trailed 21-0 in the 2nd quarter when a botched punt gave them life inside the Douglas five-yard line.
Quarterback Imanol Silva turned the miscue into a 2-yard touchdown run to make the score 21-8 at the half.
Hudson replaced Higuera at quarterback for Douglas (4-2, 1-1) late in the game and threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jaasiel Maldonado.
Douglas’ defense dominated with three takeaways in the game. Gerardo Burgos Jr. and Cesar Gaxiola had interceptions. Julio Valdivia recovered a fumble that snuff out an Amphi scoring opportunity in the red zone.
The Bulldogs host Catalina Foothills next Friday night while Amphi visits Mica Mountain.
