FC Tucson forward all heart, on and off the field
By Pricilia Mugwa
TUCSON — When you meet Vivian Villarreal, her calm confidence and warm spirit immediately stand out. But don’t let that quiet nature fool you — she’s one of the hardest-working players on the FC Tucson Women’s Soccer team, balancing rigorous training with academic excellence and a deep connection to her family.
Balancing Books and the Ball
Vivian is not just an athlete; she’s a dedicated student. With a 4.0 GPA, she considers her academic success her proudest off-field achievement.
“Managing school and training is definitely difficult,” she admits. “But loving what I do makes it easier. I love my school, I love doing my work, and I love showing up to train.”
Winding Down with Family
After a long day of practice and classes, Vivian’s favorite way to relax is simple: being home.
“I love spending time with my family,” she says. “It helps me step away from the stress of school and friends. It brings me peace.”
Whether it’s a weeknight or the weekend, you can usually find Vivian watching movies with her parents — a family ritual that keeps her grounded.
Inspired by Her Brother
Vivian comes from a family of athletes, but it’s her brother who inspires her most.

“He proves every day that hard work beats talent,” she says. “No matter what he’s doing, he gives 100%, and that motivates me to do the same.”
A Legacy of Effort
When asked what kind of legacy she wants to leave with her team, Vivian doesn’t hesitate:
“I want to be remembered as someone who never gave up — someone who gave 100% on every play.”
Her drive and discipline make her a natural role model, and her attitude helps build a sense of unity among her teammates.
“Even though we’re all from different parts of the state, when summer comes, we’re all in Tucson. We’re representing the same city, and we build from there. It feels like family.”
Surprising Passions
Off the field, Vivian is passionate about fashion and cinema — especially when it’s paired with family time.
“People don’t expect it, but I love just being with my parents, watching a movie,” she says with a smile.
Vivian Villarreal is more than a soccer player — she’s a focused, grounded young woman who’s building a legacy rooted in grit, gratitude, and love for the people around her.
