Arizona stretches win streak to eight as Wildcats sweep Eugene Regional

EUGENE — The home runs kept coming for Arizona on Sunday at PK Park in Eugene, Oregon.

One night after hitting a program-record eight home runs, the Wildcats added six more in a resounding 14-0 win over Cal Poly to take the Eugene Regional and advance to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Mustangs (43-19) needed 11 innings to beat Utah Valley earlier in the day on Sunday to advance to the regional final. Cal Poly had nothing left in their tank as UA jumped on the Mustangs with five runs in the 1st inning and three more in the 2nd frame.

Mason White hit three home runs for Arizona on Saturday night. Aaron Walton followed suit on Sunday.

The senior transfer smacked two-run homers in 1st, 2nd and 6th innings to become the 10th player in program history to accomplish the feat.

Maddox Mihalakis homered twice and Tommy Splaine also had a big fly.

Starting pitcher Smith Bailey (3-3) pitched six shutout innings allowing just four hits. He struck out five and walked one. White was named MVP of the regional.

Arizona (42-18) has won eight in a row and is in the Super Regionals for a sixth time. UA will play either North Carolina or Oklahoma. The Wildcats could host if the Sooners advance on Monday in Chapel Hill.
