UA hit eight home runs, three by Mason White in a 14-4 win
EUGENE — Arizona Baseball smacked a program-record eight home runs Saturday night in a 14-4 win over Utah Valley to advance to the Eugene Regional Final.
The Wildcats will play the winner of Sunday’s early Elimination final between the Wolverines and Cal Poly. The Mustangs stunned host and No. 12 seed Oregon 10-8 on Saturday eliminating the Ducks from the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Mason White hit three of the Wildcats eight home runs, becoming the 9th player in program history to homer three times in one game. Ironically two of the previous eight Wildcats to accomplish the feat also did it against the Wolverines. White finished with four RBI.
Arizona had 19 hits and blew the game open with a six-run 7th inning.
Brendan Summerhill, Aaron Walton, Adonys Guzman, Garen Caulfield and Tommy Splaine all added long balls for UA.
The Wildcats are back in the Regional Final for the first time since 2022, Chip Hale’s 1st season. The difference this time around is they’ll be the team that will need to be beaten twice. If Arizona loses on Sunday night there will be a deciding Game 7 at a to-be-determined time on Monday.
Casey Hintz (7-4) pitched three no-hit innings in relief of starter Raul Garayzar to get the win. Junior reliever Michael Hilker picked up a three-inning save for UA. He struck out seven of the ten batters he faced.
Sunday’s game can be heard on Wildcats Radio 1290. Brian Jeffries will be on the call with coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. ESPN+ has the television broadcast, but the game could be added on Sunday to one of over-the-air ESPN channels (ESPN2, ESPNU, etc.).
