Dorados beat Panthers for a 13th straight time
ORO VALLEY — There are three high schools in the Amphitheater School District and two hit the field against each other in Week 5 of the high school football season.
Reigning Conference 4A state champion Canyon del Oro dominated visiting Amphitheater on Homecoming Night to the tune of a 27-0 victory. It was the third straight win for the Dorados.
Senior quarterback Gavin Bower threw a pair of touchdown passes as the Dorados scored all 27 of their points in the first half. Bower had a 17-yard strike to Lucas Cachoeira to put CDO up 10-0. He followed that up with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Reece Douglas.
Nick Mondragon added a touchdown on the ground. Douglas kicked a pair of field goals from 27 and 25 yards.
It was the 13th straight win for CDO in their rivalry with Amphi but the Panthers still lead the all-time series 28-22.
Canyon del Oro (3-1) will face Marana in what might be dubbed as the Southern Arizona Game of the Year next week.
Amphi (1-3) lost for a third consecutive game. The Panthers are home to Cholla in Week 6.
