Hoops: Pima gets a doubleheader sweep over rival Phoenix

HIGHLIGHTS: Aztecs 150, Phoenix 82

TUCSON — Tanner Poeschl scored 21 points off the bench as Pima Men’s Basketball drops a 150-82 win on Phoenix in its ACCAC conference opening game at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The Aztecs forced 20 turnovers and picked up 14 steals in the first half on their way to building a 43-point halftime lead (85-42). The Bears (0-6, 0-1) finished with 29 turnovers.

Pima (5-0, 1-0) had eight players score in double figures.

Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed out the game with 18 points and freshman Gabe Oldham posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Aztecs return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium next Tuesday, Nov. 28 when they host Glendale. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

No. 13 Pima started their contest against Phoenix on a 10-0 run and outscored the Bears 30-11 in the first quarter in route to their 93-60 win.

The Aztecs (4-1, 1-0 in ACCAC) were led by sophomore Dominique Acosta’s (Nogales HS) team-high 18 points. Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer finished the game with a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds.

P.C.C. returns to the floor next Tuesday at home against Glendale at 5:30.
