Valenzuela and Montealegre each net two goals as Pima Soccer tops Rock Valley to open NJCAAs

5th seed Aztecs win 5-1 and will play #4 seed Iowa Lakes on Tuesday

TUCSON — The 5th seed Pima men’s soccer team scored four goals in the first half Monday and went on to beat No. 9 seed Rock Valley College 5-1 to open Pool D play at the NJCAA Division II National Tourament.

The tournament is being held in Tucson for a second consecutive year.

Freshman Jose Luis Martin Montealegre scored twice in the 1st half netting goals in the 13th and 39th minutes.

Freshman Nico Valenzuela (Salpointe Catholic HS) also had a goal in the 1st half as well as one in the 2nd.

Sophomore Victor Loredo (Metro Tech) capped off Pima’s scoring on a 2nd half penalty kick (73′)

Sophomore James Lynch (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished the game with no saves as the Aztecs held Rock Valley to four total shots.

P.C.C. (13-2-1) will play No. 4 seeded Iowa Lakes on Tuesday at the Kino North Stadium. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. The winner will head to the National Semifinals.
