TUCSON — Sabino senior quarterback Cameron Hackworth threw for a touchdown and ran for three more as the 4th seed Sabercats held off Round Valley 28-20 Thursday night on Roberts Field.

Sabino (9-3) advances to the state semifinals where they will face No. 1 seed Mohave. The Sabercats beat the Thunderbirds in Tucson back on October 27.

This game however will be played on Mohave’s home field, five hours to the north in Bullhead City.

The Thunderbirds (11-1) advanced Thursday night with a 54-14 win over Blue Ridge.

Hackworth’s four combined touchdowns now give him 117 on his career (88 passing, 29 rushing).

It’s the second Final Four trip for Sabino in the seven seasons Ryan McBrayer has coached the team. The second round has been the Sabercats bugaboo under McBrayer. Sabino entered Thursday night 1-4 in quarterfinal games since McBrayer arrived in 2017.

Sabercats (’06) and UA grad Brooks Reed (’10) attended the game. Reed lives in Phoenix after finishing a 10-year NFL career.

Sabino is 8-5 in the post-season under head coach Ryan McBrayer.
