Report: Baylor G Davion Mitchell declaring for draft

Baylor point guard Davion Mitchell is declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft and plans to hire an agent, The Athletic reported Wednesday.

The 6-foot-2 junior led the Bears to a national championship on Monday, tallying 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in an 86-70 victory against previously unbeaten Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament final.

Mitchell started all 30 games for Baylor (28-2) this season and averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He shot 51.1 percent from the field and 44.7 percent (63 of 141) from 3-point distance.

A potential lottery pick in the July 29 draft, Mitchell was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2020-21 and an All-Big 12 first-team selection. He was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year in 2019-20 after averaging 9.9 points and 3.8 assists in 30 games (all starts).

Mitchell began his collegiate career at Auburn, playing in 34 games off the bench in 2017-18 and contributing 3.7 points and 1.9 assists in 17.1 minutes per game. He sat out the 2018-19 season after transferring.
