Mariners put RHP Hirano on injured list

The Seattle Mariners placed right-handed pitcher Yoshihisa Hirano on the injured list Tuesday.

The club did not disclose the reason. Hirano had not appeared in summer camp.

Hirano, 36, spent last two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks In 2019 he went 5-5 with one save and a 4.75 ERA in 62 relief appearances. His 16 holds were tied for 20th-most in the National League and 12th-most by a Japanese-born player in a single season in Major League history.

The Mariners signed Hirano to a one-year $1.6 million contract in January.

Hirano spent 11 seasons pitching in Japan for Orix of Japan’s Pacific League.
